Can I download my site's files?
It depends on where the site came from, and the difference is worth stating plainly rather than leaving you to discover it.
If you uploaded your own files
Yes. Your site's Settings page has Download your site, and it gives you back everything you published, as a zip. It is your work, you keep it, and you can take it anywhere.
If you built it from one of our designs
No, and this is deliberate. Our designs are licensed for use on your Lemonade Host site, not sold outright. A design you can download in one click is a design anyone can host anywhere, and can pass on — and then there is no design library for anyone.
So a site built in our editor has no download button, and the same rule applies to reading its files through the API or an AI assistant.
This is not a technical claim about secrecy. A published website is public: anyone can view its source or save a page. What is not on offer is us handing over a tidy, complete, ready-to-re-upload copy of the thing we sell.
What is yours either way
- Your words and your photographs. Everything you wrote and every picture you uploaded is your work, and no design licence touches it. Copy the text off the page; keep your own originals of the photographs, as you would anyway.
- Your domain. It is registered in your name at your own domain company and has nothing to do with us. Point it somewhere else whenever you like.
- Your form messages, bookings and orders. Exportable as a spreadsheet from the site's own Inbox, Diary and Orders pages.
- Your account records. Receipts and invoices are on Billing.
Before you delete anything
Deleting a site starts a 30-day clock, after which the files are gone for good — not recoverable by you, and not by us. Get whatever you want out first.
A word on backups
We keep every published version for 7 days and can put any of them back in one click, so this is not the thing you need a download for. What a download protects against is us — and for a site built from your own files, you have it.
If you want a copy of your writing from a design-built site, the honest method is the boring one: open each page and copy the text. There is no export button, and we would rather say so than let you find out on the day you need it.
